Leave us alone!

The government has done lots more meddling in our lives again over the past month, including deciding that 16-year-olds are old enough and wise enough to vote and choose who runs the country.

They also decided that 16-year-olds are too young and not wise enough to be trusted with what they see online and so have brought in age verification to view many websites and online services.

So the same people who are not allowed to buy cigarettes, buy alcohol, not allowed to drive, have to stay in full-time education, etc., are now being trusted to vote. The worst is that because of the online safety bill blocking all sorts of content deemed unsafe (basically anything that goes against the current political narrative), they are also uninformed.

See the problem and the hypocrisy?

If 16-year-olds can vote, why not 15-year-olds or 14-year-olds?

But anyone with a brain (sorry, Labour supporters, you won’t understand this next bit) knows the reason they are lowering the voting age is because they think young people with no life experience, no money, and very naive will vote for left-leaning parties. Why wouldn’t they? They are still within the government system (school), they don’t work, they live off handouts and expect everything for free, they are the perfect Labour voters.

The other news this month is the online safety bill. We all probably saw Rachel Reeves crying in Parliament a few weeks ago, probably due to the fact she forgot to tax VPNs because the sales of them have shot up since everyone now has to prove their age by uploading their passport and video of their face to access any content deemed “adult”…. or they just use a VPN and avoid the whole nonsense.

Of course, it’s being marketed as to protect children from online porn (just so no one can really argue against it), but let’s be honest, if they wanted to protect children, they would start with offline and everything that’s been going on in the country recently. I would comment on that, but because of these new laws, I don’t want to be arrested for wrong-think by the Starmtroopers.

I even heard an MP who’s promoting this new online safety bill saying something like “if you use a VPN you’re hurting a child” its a bit like the 1980’s “don’t pirate this movie or your funding terrorism” or the more recent “if you don’t wear a mask you’re killing granny”.

It’s all a symptom of a nanny state who wants to get involved in every aspect of our lives, deciding what we can and cannot see or do. Where we can go, when we can go. Do this, don’t do that. Look over here, don’t look there. Oh and tax this, that, tax everything, it all belongs to us so give us our fair share you can keep less than half for yourself and be grateful we let you keep anything.

The best part about August though is that the circus (aka parliament because it’s full of clowns) closes for the month so hopefully they do leave us alone for a good few weeks… I think we all need the break.
